Backup CRC warnings

Post by geoffers »

Hi,

Wonder if anyone an help.

Whenever I run largish backups (80Gb or greater) I will get random CRC errors appearing in the log after the test of the backup ZIP file. For example, the log will look like: -
[25/04/2011 11:42:37] Starting test on "Home Video" for backup number 2, the last backup number at 25/04/2011 11:42:37
[25/04/2011 12:25:07] Warning: CRC test failed for file "E:\Windows 7\xxx\M.....\20101206_212757.m2ts". CRC stored in catalog is 0, destination CRC is 0
Test finished at 25/04/2011 12:29:24, 6115 file(s) and 89 folder(s) tested, 0 error(s) and 1 warning(s) found

This can be for anything between 1 and 6 files in the archive, all random (and not the same each time the backup is run)...
Source files always seem fine

Restoring that file from within Backup4all reports as working (e.g. will show restoring the file and the size, e.g. 356 Mb) but that file will be missing from the restore.

Winrar can repair the zip file but the individual file(s) in the archive with the warning is still corrupted and fails extraction with 7zip, Winrar and Winzip, getting CRC error (e.g. Winzip reports CRC check failed. Expected 89FBACA, actual FCB1DC0B).

This is across dump areas (external USB HDDs or NAS). Disks have been checked and where possible, reformatted... Source data has been checked and full checkdisk has been run against the source disk with no errors.

Have tried single zip file and split zip file (8Gb chunks). Have run with AV (Avast) turned off...

Any thoughts?

Thanks...
