Password prompt halfway through repair

Post by sunilmishra »

I'm attempting to repair one of my backup catalogs and get a password prompt partway through. It is as though some of my zip files have been using a different password. I have the option to save password enabled in settings, so my understanding is that backup4all should not be asking for any passwords.

In addition, I use a password manager and the saved password in my manager isn't working with the backups I have.

I'm using zip with AES compression. The password is 40 characters.

I'm not sure how to repair my backup or recover my password. Any thoughts? I'm considering recreating the full backup but that comes with its own problems as the backup files are mirrored to azure. And I don't want to upload the whole set from scratch if I can avoid it.

Attaching an image of the password prompt, hopefully that makes the problem a bit clearer.

So I got my archive password. And with that was able to make more progress. I opened the zip file in nanazip (like 7zip) and was able to use the password for extracting some of the files in the archive. But not one. See attached image. Looks like the file was corrupted during backup. How can I force this one file to be re-backed up in an increment so that I have a complete working backup set?

Hi,

It looks like the zip file is partially corrupt.
We recommend you to recreate that zip.

Please rename that zip file in destination.
Then run a Repair backup from Backup4all. It will start testing the zip files and that one will be missing (9_E.z04). It will back up again those files.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I had to drop that backup for other reasons so I can't try this out. Is there any way the password prompt can be enhanced with an option to mark the zip as corrupt? Or some other suitable action that will allow for easier repair?

Hi,

You can clean the backup no.9 from Backup4all by pressing the Clean button.
Then you can run again the backup to recreate the backup.
