How to see what files next backup will save

Post by phxroadrunner »

New user here - I'm trying to debug a problem with my Differential backup job.

I've run a full backup already and created a Differential backup job to run on non-full backup weeks. The first time I ran the Differential, though, it seems to have backed up (most) everything as the Full backup did. The backup type is set as Differential and the comparison criteria uses only Date Modified and Date Created (in addition to the default Size option). It's not clear what I'm doing wrong.

To debug this I'd like to have a "preview" of the files a given job would backup if it was run now, instead of having to run the job and wait for the results (which for a full backup is about 12 hrs). Is there a way to preview files that would be backed up without actually backing them up?

Hi,

The Differential backup includes all new and modified files since the last full (not since the last differential).
In order to see which files will be backed up, you can go to Explore View and enable the filters in toolbar, to display only new and modified files.
You can also use the "Calculate statistics" feature to calculate the statistics for next backup.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html
