Hebrew files names are unreadable

Post by Mishkin »

I made today my first full backup with Backup4all Professional.
When I opened the zipped backup files I found out that all my files and folders that are named in Hebrew
are unreadable, the fonts changed to meaningless signs.
I don't need Hebrew support for working with the program, I just want to recognize my files.
Is there a solution for this?

Hi,

What version of Backup4all do you use?
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html

Hi,

There could be a problem with the zip application you used to view the files in archive.
Please restore some files with Backup4all to a temporary location and see if they are restored with the correct name.

Hi,
You are right, the application I use to view my files including archives is Total Commander.
Normally I can view with ToCmd Zip archives with files in Hebrew, only the archives that were
created with Backup4all didn't show Hebrew fonts.

I tried what you said, restoring the files went well, nothing was changed in them.
in order to view the files and folders before restoring, I used the restore window of
Backup4all, there the names were presented correctly.
If there is no other choice, I will have to use Backup4all even just for viewing instead
of ToCmd that is constantly opened on my computer. this way a bit clumsy for me.
Is there a better solution?

Thanks :)

Hi,

You could also try using the WinZip tool for browsing the zip files.

Hi,
I've tried it but for some reason in the WinZip window all the files appear but not the folders containing them.
This makes it impossible for me.

OOps,

I changed the options of WinZip, now I can view
files and folders.

Many thanks :)

I have the same problem here, but without archiving...
I use mirror copy and all the Hebrew file names on the backup changed to gibberish.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Please tell us what application do you use to browse the files in destination and see the wrong file names.
Can you restore few files using Backup4all? Do they have the correct file names?
