I am running Backup4all 5.0 build 360 on an HP ENVY 700-210xt CTO Desktop with Windows 8.1.

I recently purchased a new PC. I was using a Western Digital My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0 external Hard drive for the destination on the old PC. I have been unable to mount the drive on this new PC. Until I can get visibility, I am using a smaller drive to continue backups. Immediately I started getting warnings in the Merge function. In an effort to remove the warning in the merge feature I tried to run a full backup but the system continues to attempt to merge the version 7 file. SEE BELOW:

What is the best way to resolve these warning?

Hi,

You need to open Backup Properties->Type and disable the limitation option. Press Save.

That would work if I did not want to limit the number of backups to 90 and Merge the extra backups. It appears this is a bug, I was hoping you would issue an update to Backup4all to make it warn about 7_C.zip being missing and then the next backup warn about 8_C.zip being missing and then the next backup warn about 9_C.zip being missing and so on until the backup merge is in sync and the warnings stop.

Can you please implement a fix for this problem?

Hi,

I understand that you use a different (smaller) drive to continue the backups (different than the other where the previous versions are). If all the backups are on the same drive, that is different.
I gave you the suggestion in order to keep in catalog all file versions until the backups will be available again to be merged.

From your last reply I understand you have all backup versions on the same drive. In this case, the merge could fail because in temp folder (located by default on the C: drive) there isn't enough free disk space to unzip all the backup versions to be merged.
If that is the case, please set the limit to a higher value in order to merge less versions. After that set the limit to a lower value to merge another group of versions.

I lost visibility to the backup drive. You might say it crashed. I cannot mount it to any PC. The backup files are lost. I started the same backup job on a new disk drive. Ever since then the system has been issuing warnings that say the merge process cannot find the 7th backup file. I would expect the merge process to start with the file that is in excess of the limit of 90. Since the current backup version is 121, I would expect the 31st file to be merged not the 7th. what is causing the backup merge process to keep looking for the 7th backup file?

Recently I was able to gain visibility to the old backup drive and tried to copy the files from that drive to the new drive. Unfortunately I received errors so I ran a clean on the drive and eventually go rid of the errors. I am able to backup now without getting errors. I am worried that the system may have started over again from backup files 1_C and I lost all of my backups for that job. Presently the backup drive has files 126_C down to 113_C and 108_C down to 89_C. Now backups have started with 1_C, 2_C, and 3_C. Can you tell me if the backup job is using the files 126_C down to 113_C and 108_C down to 89_C?

Hi,

If the backup started again with 1_C, then it means the backup started from zero.

Merge failed!
[8/1/2014 7:25:05 PM] Zip file "H:\Daily\0.zip" deleted.

In the daily folder on that drive I see 7_C.zip through 92_C.zip. The backup limit is set to keep 90 and Merge backups is checked.

This error has been showing for some time. The file 3_C.zip does not exists, How can I get the system to remove 3_C.zip from its list of files to merge?
