Themida - "http://www.oreans.com" - dialog when starting Backup4All
I am using Backup4All 5.2.643.
Today, when I tried to start the program to take a backup, I get a dialog box popping up with the title "Themida http://www.oreans.com", telling me that I have a "monitor program" running and that I should "unload it from memory". I tried to attach a screenshot, but uploading an attachment to this forum post fails.
Is this something that is legitimately part of Backup4All? I checked the website for the Themida product, and it seems like some kind of software protection product. So I guess it COULD be part of the Backup4All. Or has something bad snuck into the software distribution for Backup4All? Not sure what to believe. It does not inspire faith in the product if it is using some lame software protection system in addition to the activation scheme.

Support got back to me via email, confirming that this is a legitimate part of the program. Thanks.

Hi,
That is the protection component of Backup4all.
It appears because you have a monitor program on your computer.

Note that it is yet unclear what a monitor program is; I suspect this happened because I ran (but then also quit) some of the harmless SysInternals Process and File monitoring tools to debug some strange file handle issues. Appears you might have to reboot the machine after using them to make Backup4All happy, which is a bit restrictive.

Hi,
Even if you close that monitoring application, the process remains active in memory and Themida detects it.
That is why you have to restart the computer.

Why should backup4all try to stop me running procmon when I need to?

Hi,
We want to protect our application. That is Themida used for.
Backup4all won't stop you running procmon. But it will not work if you run procmon.

It won't work if procmon has been shut down either.
Re: Themida - "http://www.oreans.com" - dialog when starting Backup4All
This is so annoying! How am I supposed to know which program it is complaining about? If you're going to use a product like Themida, then have the decency to tell a person what program is causing the issue.
Saying reboot and hoping the problem goes away is not the answer.
I have been using Backup4all for many years, but right now I am seriously considering dumping it and finding a less paranoid company.

Hi,
Themida component does not offer this feature to display the name of the monitoring application.
As these monitoring applications are not commonly used, user should know which one he installed on his computer.

Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html
