Slow Operation on XP

Still running XP at least until April 2014. The performance of version 5 is significantly slower than that of version 4. The machine is a Pentium 4 w/4 gb RAM. Operation slowness when doing almost any task, including backup. Would appreciate any tips that might speed things up. Have been relying on B4All for at least 4 years.
