Rebuild Backup Catalogue from Zips

Post by rothers »

Using Backp4All Professional 4.8 on Win7 64

Is it possible to rebuild the backup catalogue from the backup .zip files ?

We run a nightly incremental backup and for various reasons need to keep a reasonable amount of old file versions. For well over a year this was left as keep all but as the total backup size is getting very large we have now reduced this to keep last 25.

Unfortunately when the first backup after reducing to 25 ran it took a very long time, we have ~ 4TB of data in the backup. We assumed the backup has crashed and killed the process (after it had removed old versions from the .zips but not updated the catalogue). So we now have file old versions that have been deleted from the .zips but not removed from the catalogue. Consequently each backup log now contains a slew of file not found errors after the verification stage.

Hi,

Versions 1.x, 2.x, 3.x and 4.x of Backup4all are no longer supported. To benefit from support and the added functionality we highly recommend upgrading to the latest version.

Hi,

In version 5 of Backup4all you can repair the backup catalog. That means Backup4all will scan the destination against the information from catalog and will remove from catalog the files not existing in destination.
