Problem with B4A and Windows 8

Post by GerdB »

Hi there,

I am using B4A Pro for years now and it was always working like a charm.
But I upgraded my System yesterday to Windows 8 Pro (64bit) and installed the latest version of B4A Pro.
But now everytime I start Backup4All Windows freezes completly, even CTRL-ALT-DEL doesnt work, Music I had playing stopped as well. Only way to get out of the freeze was to turn of the computer.
I checked the event log if there is any hint on what was happening, but nothing there.
What can I do? I really am got used to rely on B4A.

Hi,

Backup4all works fine under Windows 8 bot 32-bit and 64-bit OS.

1. Do you have the same problem if you uninstall and reinstall Backup4all?
2. What version of Windows did you upgrade to Windows 8? or it was a complete new installation?

1. Yes, I deinstalled/reinstalled it 3 times now. I also did a 'refresh Install' of Windows 8, nothing worked.
2. I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro, but I did 2 'refresh installs' since then.

All the other software works fine.
I did an Mem-Check (6-hours!) all fine.
I did an CPU-Stress Test with Prime 95 (2 hours), all fine.

I got a i7 3770k CPU (not overclocked), 16GB Ram on a ASUS P8Z77-V PRO Mainboard.
Samsung SSD 830 (256 GB) as Boot device, another SSD and 2 Harddisks for Data.

B4A ran fine on this hardware with Windows 7.

Hi,

Can you give me access to your computer using TeamViewer?
Please send me an email to support[at]backup4all[dot]com to discuss when I can connect.

Hi,

Please make sure there isn't another application blocking Backup4all. That was the problem in the previous case.
Close as many applications you can and try again to run Backup4all.

Problem with B4A and Windows 8 Locking

Post by Glenlb »

I'm having the same problem with Windows 8 locking every time I try to start B4A. I just purchased this PC new yesterday and today, 11/25/2012, trying to run B4A to move files over from old PC. Windows 8 locks every time I try to start B4A, and not even Alt-Ctl-Del will work. Have to force PC to stop with power button. When will B4A be fixed? Is there any way to move my files over, or is B4A completely unusable on Windows 8? I'm not aware of any other tasks running at the time it fails.

I'm not sure what backup software comes on the Toshiba Win 8 machines that are sold at OfficeMax.
I'm finding "Windows 7 File Recovery" and "File History" listed in an Internet search. They are commonly on Win 8 systems.
I have not loaded any backupsoftware other than B4all.
Are there specific software names that I should look for?
What specifically needs to be done to other software? Is there a way to determine whether they are a problem?
