Hi,

As you can see, many users reported the "preparing shadow copy" problem, but that is because they did not follow the instructions.
I will re-post the basic requirements to back up open files.
It works:
- only on Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 2008
- only for users with administrator access rights to copy open files
- only on local hard drives
- only on NTFS formatted partitions
- only if the VSS (Volume Shadow Service) is running and it is properly configured

Another situation can be the antivirus/spyware application which is blocking one of the vscsrv.exe files from the Backup4all installation folder. We are trying to contact each antivirus company whom application blocks Backup4all to run as designed to fix the problem, but in the meantime you can try to put all exe files inside Backup4all installation folder in the exceptions list of your antivirus.

Hi,

How large is your backup?
How many files were found to be backed up?

I have v 4.4 Build 218 and believe all is configured to meet Backup4All's needs to cope with the VSS. However I frequently find the program sitting chruning away endlessly on the Volume Shadow Copy stage (though not every time oddly) don't get any error messages or warnings from Backup4All or from AVG AV. System is Windows 7 64 bit. When it's chrining away it is not abortable - it says it's aborting but doesn't seem to so it always needs killing in TaskMgr :(

Last successful backup of just the C drive had ~340k files in 145Gb zip file.

I can't live without a 100% working backup application much longer. I was expecting a solution last week, so I have delayed looking for other backup software products... Any news/progress on this issue?
