Destination Removable Drive Drop Down Empty

Post by Activeplan »

This applies to both Destination, External Hard Drive, External Hard drive & Destination, Removable, Removable drive drop downs
I have a Seagate 1TB USB hard drive sattached to my W2008 SP2 x64 server but my Backup4all Professional 4.6 will not list in the drop downs mentioned above.
Is there something I need to do to "register" the USB drive to appear in the drop downs?

I can backup to the USB drive by mapping a drive letter to it and backing up via the Local hard drive option.

Hi,

Do you use an administrator account?
Is the hard drive locally connected? If yes, why do you need to assign it a drive letter? It should already have a drive letter as the other drives.

I don't use an administrator account to backup but can log into the server as administrator if required. The USB hard drive is assigned a drive letter (E) but I backup on the drive letter (H) due to legacy issues. I was just wondering why there were options for removable drives but they didn't seem to work.

Hi,

If you log in as administrator, can you back up to E: drive?

It seems to work if I log in as Administrator but not if I log in as the backup user. Is this by design?

Hi,

No, that should work in both cases. The problem is caused by the restrictive permissions you set to the normal user for handling the external drive.

Have you any idea what restriction I have inadvertently put in place? The backup user can full access the external drive when the drive is mapped to a drive letter and has permission to change the drive letter of the external drive.

Hi,

Have you tried to start Backup4all using "run as administrator" option?

Running as Administrator does not populate the dropdowns either

Hi,

I suggest you to create a new user or give this user all the necessarily permissions.
