Backup4all 9.9 - No gmail support

Post by alexvan »

Hi,
I'm using backup4all pro for a long time now. I have a licence and I want to switch it to a newer computer and I then follow the procedure available in the FAQ: https://www.backup4all.com/faq.html "Installing - How do I move Backup4all to a new computer?"

This is my current setup:
* Computer 1 (old): Backup4all 9.8 pro with a purchased licence
* Computer 2 (new): Backup4all 9.9 pro with a trial licence.

I use a gmail account to send email notification. I have a weird behavior:
* Computer 1: it works perfectly and I've followed this procedure in the past: https://www.backup4all.com/email-help.html .I have selected "gmail", and it works perfectly.
* Computer 2: I just don't have the gmail section. I can only use smtp. See the screenshot attached.

Considering both are backup4all pro, I don't understand this behavior. The main differences are version number (9.8 vs 9.9) and the type of licence (purchased vs trial). How can I get gmail support on the new computer ?

Thanks for support

Hi,

Starting with May 31, 2024, Google due to Google API changes, you won't be able to use GMail as SMTP server anymore.
The old version of Backup4all already configured might work a while. If you try now in version 8.9 to authenticate for GMail, you will get an error.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the reply. It's then not a bug and expected behavior and my guess is that the documentation will be updated soon accordingly.

Would you mind recommending any free mailbox provider that is known to work with SMTP on backup4all perfectly?
* Protonmail?
* GMX?
* Other?

Thanks,
