Always use temporary folder & alternative zip method on removable

Post by Peet »

Is there any method to overrule the settings

"Always use temporary folder to create zip files" and "Use alternate zipping mode"

I have a removable HD unit, that is connected trough external sata. it is detected as a removable disk (and it is, it is a Dell powervault RD1000 unit). But in backup4all all removable disks will ignore these 2 settings.
The disks is fast enough to write directly to it. So backing up should be much faster.

is there a way i could do this?

Hi,

Please go to Tools->Options->Application folders.
Set the temporary folder location to a folder on your removable drive.
In Backup Properties->Advanced, check the "Always use temporary folder" option.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html

Then the file is copied twice to the removable disk. once as a temp file, and once as a final zip file. (it even needs double it space, the file isn't copied when there is not enough free space left on the device)

My idea was that backup4all doesn't use any tempfile, but puts the zip file directly on the right location. just as it does on an internal harddisk. the settings backup4all uses for removable devices is under the assumption removable disks are slow. but that is not the case any more. there are even removable disk systems with ssd disks that are much faster as any internal disk.

Hi,

The behavior is the same for all removable drives.
We cannot change that, as the modification will also be applied for all other slow removable drives.
