CD/DVD Performance Increase

Post by Lloyd »

Writing to 7 DVDs over most of Monday, it occured to me that the time taken could be reduced dramatically by multitasking. Currently all operations are sequential - create zip, write zip to disc, create 2nd zip, write zip to disc etc. Writing a disc whilst creating the next zip in parallel could slice a significant amount of time off the whole operation. Yes there will be some IO contention, but the CPU is doing next to nothing whilst the DVD is being burned, and is maxed out (so not IO limited) when creating the zip.

Hi,

We will think about your suggestion.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html
