Default compression filter

Post by colmac »

Just downloaded the Pro version on trial today, and running some tests against my current system (a mix of zip jobs and batch files).

I'm testing one of my images folders with some 3,000 files, mostly a mixture of jpg and CR2 Raw files. Neither of them are really suitable for further compression. This represents about 10% of the total on this disk, so speed/time is important.

So I added the CR2 (and a couple of others) to the Default compression filter as shown below. As far as I can see this is exactly how the Help file says it should be done.

When I check the zip file, I see that the CR2 files have been compressed (by a huge 1%). All the jpgs show 0% as expected.

Am I missing a step somewhere? This is taking some 4 to 5 times longer than my current solution, so I really want to find a way to speed it up.

Thanks

Colin

PS Wasn't sure what the divider character was, so I did a copy/paste

Hi,

We were able to reproduce the problem and we will fix it.
That feature works for the file types already in the list.

Thanks for a nice prompt and helpful reply. Have you any idea of timescale for this enhancement? I need to move quickly with evaluating the alternative options. I like what I've seen so far, but it needs to deal with these filters properly as the time impact is just massive all for a 1% compression!

Thanks

Is this fixed yet?

Your web site says the latest version is 214, but the announcement section on the forum refers to 213. Is there a 214? if so wht is in it newer than the 213 announced here

Hi,

Please install build 214 of Backup4all.
After running the backup, open the resulting zip archive using WinZip.
Switch on Details view and compare the original size of the file with the packed one.
Also see the compression ratio.

Let us know if you still have the problem.

Thanks for that. I do want to try and help resolve this issue.

Unfortunately, the CR2 files are still being compressed. See the attached image. As you will see, the jpg files are not being compressed as required

I await your comments.

Thanks
