restoring all available versions of a file, older then...

Post by jockel »

Hi,

accoutning contacted me (again) today:
"someone messed with a complex calculation spreadsheet, we do not know
when this happened and have to check all older versions of this file available..."

So I wanted my Backup4all to restore for me all available versions of a
specific file. I did not find a way how to automate this and had to go
through backups again and again restoring the files manually and one by one.
Beside the fact that I had to do this one by one, it was even more complicated,
because the selection window does not stay open after a restore so I could
select the next backup to extract the file, but I had to do all settings again and
again.

For me, doing administration in different smaller companies, this type of
problem is a rather frequent task!

I would appreciate very much, if I could ask b4all to restore a specific file(s),
all available versions dating older then XX.XX.XXXX, to a dedicated location.
The problem of duplicate filenames in this case could be solved by simply
applying respective <date_time> to the filename, so you then have:
<filename>_<date-time>.<ext>

Thank you for reading!

Hi,

At this moment there isn't such an option to restore all versions of a specific file.
We added your suggestion on our Wishlist.

For now, here is a method to quickly restore all versions of that file.
1. Open Backup4all, go to Explore View
2. Select the file you want to restore.
In the bottom, you'll see all file versions.
3. Right click each file version and press Restore to
4. Select the location for restore.
Do you know you can monitor your backups remotely with Backup4all Monitor? You can read more here: https://www.backup4all.com/backup4all-monitor.html

Hi support,

thank you very much for your workaround, this is definitely
a better solution compared to what I did!
But the problem of doing single restores plus renaming
each single file after such a restore, remains!

So I would stick with my proposal, still considering
this a great help in such special cases!
